 HONO no EN HITO no EN: Author Shiho Kanzaki

古伊賀に見られる、壮烈なそれでいてどこか甘い感じのする美しさ。
古信楽の、野武士と乙女が同居したようなコントラストの美しさ。
これは、陶工と作品との一体感の上に生まれ、陶工と土と炎の限界寸前に誕生したものだ。
自然の中で、自然を活かし切ったとき、大自然の息吹が自然釉となり、炎色となる。

炎と土と人間の、極限における融合こそ、焼き締め陶と自然釉の極致がある。
無量の炎は無量の光を放ち作品に映える。
これはまさに、転生の妙、自然の妙有。

山根芳子略歴

1944年　大阪生まれ

1971年-1974年　陶芸作家に師事し陶芸を学ぶ

1976年　二代藤一と結婚し鳥取へ移住

1980年-2008年　初代藤一に師事、二代藤一と共に陶芸修行

2008年　二代藤一死去、三代目を継ぐ

2009年　鳥取県伝統工芸士に認定される

Yoshiko Yamane simplified personal history

1944   Born in Osaka

1971 - 1974   Studies under a ceramist and ceramic art is studied.

1976   Get married whis the 2nd Toichi , and emigrate to Tottori.

1980 - 2008   Studying under first Toichi, ceramic art study with the second generation Toichi.

2008   Inherited the third generation for the second generation Toichi passing.

2009   Recognized by Tottori traditional handicrafts person.

鍋島窯元、山本拓男さんは伝統技法の"墨弾き"と呼ばれる技法を使って、美しい作品を作っています。

今回、山本さんは素焼された磁器板を使って墨弾きを説明してくれました。

This time, Mr. Yamamoto explained the SUMIHAJIKI technique using the biscuit porcelain tile.

"線書き/Line drawing"

まず最初に、素焼きされた作品へ下絵を写します。

素地へ直接描く場合もありますが、今回は山本さんがあらかじめ準備してくださっていた下絵を使っています。

First, the sketch which Mr. Yamamoto drew on the biscuit work is copied.  

下絵が終わったら、撥水剤を混ぜた絵具を細い筆を使って描いていきます。

After a sketch finishes, fine lines are drawn by a thin brush using indigo glaze containing waterproofing liquid.

山本さんは、スイスイと手慣れた手つきで線を描いておられましたが、熟練した技と経験がなければ、ただでさえ描きにくい素地へ、さらに筆を使って線の太さも調節しながら、この様な繊細な線を描くことはとても難しいと思いました。

If there are no skilled technique and experience, it is very difficult to draw such delicate lines, adjusting the width of lines using a brush.

Although I am studying ceramic art, it is very difficult to draw something using a brush to a biscuit work!

これで線書きは終わりです。

Line drawing finished.

"濃（だみ）/DAMI"

ここからは濃と呼ばれる作業が始まります。

The work called DAMI begins from here.

呉須絵具を太い筆に染み込ませ、水で濃度を調整しながら色を付けていきます。

Indigo glaze is infiltrated into a thick brush.

Painted by a big brush, adjusting glaze concentration using water.

表面張力を使って、器を傾けながら彩色していきます。

Paints using surface tension, and leaning a work.

水で濃度を調整しながら美しいグラデーションを付けます。
太い筆をスポイトの様に使って余分な水気を吸い取ったりもします。

Beautiful gradation is attached adjusting concentration with water.
Excessive water is sucked up using a thick brush like a syringe.

濃が終わった作品。

The work which DAMI finished.

この後、焼成され、美しい作品の完成です。

After a DAMI process, works are fired and a beautiful work completes them.

完成した作品は、線が抜け、このようになります。

With the work after completion, lines disappear and it becomes like a photograph.

何百年と受け継がれてきた伝統技は、このように現代に受け継がれ、私たちに"美"を与えてくれています。
取材に協力していただいた山本さんに感謝しています、素晴らしい技を見させていただき有難う御座いました。

The tradition technique inherited over 100 years or more is inherited in the present age, and is continuing giving "beauty" to us.

ここでは、中尾哲彰さんについての経歴や、個人的な感想を書かせて頂きます。

私が初めて中尾さんに会って感じた印象は、内面から出てくる人としての"優しさ"と"率直さ"でした。

私の経験上、油滴釉や、結晶釉等の科学的知識を多く必要とする釉薬の研究者は、少し小難しい方が多いと思っていましたので、初めて中尾さんに会った時の、"優しさ"と"率直さ"はとても良い印象を持ちました。

もちろん私とお付き合いのある陶芸家の方々は、作品に性格が滲み出ているように、優しくまじめな方が多いですが、中尾さんに関しては、少し違う種類の空気を放っているのが、印象的でした。

この記事を書いている時点では、まだ一度しかお会いしてないですが、お話しさせて頂いているうちに、その少し違う雰囲気の理由が分かったような気がしました。

中尾さんが"銀河釉"を作った理由を聞かせて頂きました。

 中尾さんが銀河釉を開発しようと思ったきっかけは、20数年前に網膜剥離になった事から始まります。

中尾さんは網膜剥離で何も見えずに病室で一年ほど過し、精神的にも辛く、苦しい経験をされました。

そんな闘病生活の中、ふと目の前に、天体に輝く銀河、満天の夜空の星を思い浮かべられたそうです。

その銀河で何とか作品を作れないだろうか？

と、思ったと中尾さんは話してくれました。

彼のウェブサイトの中で、中尾さんは下記の様に語っておられます。

「不思議なことに、その星に救われる思いがしました。それで、銀河のような作品で、自分と同じように辛い思いをしている人たちに元気を与えることができるのではないかと考えました。私はむしろその思いに救われたのです。」（玉峰窯HP/月刊とっとっと　2006年11月号　vol.28　P12～P13　より抜粋）

また、玉峰窯のHPインタビューにはこのように書かれている。

日本画家・千住博氏のインタビューのなかで「ニューヨーク在住の芸術家は絶望の淵にある」という話がありました。

千住氏は、「９・１１同時多発テロ以降のニューヨークにおいて、芸術家はテロを起こした側、テロを受けた側の人々に、人間としての思いやりや癒しを伝えなければならないという使命感がない」というのです。

「テロ後の傷ついた人々の心を癒し、勇気を与えることができたのは、２０世紀前半の例えばセザンヌやガウディらの作品であり、そしてまた歴史に残る芸術。つまり、芸術とは国境、宗教、思想の壁を越えて、人に勇気や希望を与えたり、傷ついた心を癒したりするメッセージがある』という内容でした。

私も同感です。そういう意味でも、『愛と自由』への思いを銀河釉に込めてメッセージを伝える意味は大きいと思います。」

そう熱く語る中尾さんは、「焼き物という芸術においても、他の人にできなかった新しい技法の意味は大きいと思う。人類史に残るメッセージを伝えることが、自分の姿だと思っています。」

私は中尾さんの作品から感じられる、率直な美しさ、暖かさの意味が分かったような気がしました。

Here, I will write the career about Tetsuaki Nakao, and individual comment.

The first impression for me to meet and feel for Mr. Nakao was the "tenderness" and the "frankness" as a person which come out from an inside.

The researchers of the glaze which needs oilspot glaze and the scientific knowledge of crystal glaze etc., and ceramists thought that there were many somewhat complex people on my experience. Therefore, "tenderness" and "frankness" when I do the first meeting to Mr. Nakao had a very good impression.

The ceramists who have association with me, of course also have much more serious one gentle to as the ceramist's character is oozing in their work. But about Mr. Nakao, I had the impression which has released the air of the kind which is different for a while.

When I was writing this report, I felt that the reason of that atmosphere that is different for a while was found, after talking with him, although I was meeting Mr. Nakao only once.

I asked why Mr. Nakao made "Galaxy glaze."

 The cause which thought that Mr. Nakao would develop Galaxy glaze begins from having become retinal detachment about twenty years ago.

Mr. Nakao developed retinal detachment, he passed in the sickroom for about one year with blindness, and he had a also mentally hard and painful experience.

He looked at the starlit sky of the Galaxy and the whole sky which shine with a heavenly body by a struggle against disease in his heart.

Mr. Nakao said to me that he thought whether I could make works like the Galaxy.

In his website, Mr. Nakao is told as follows.

"The thought saved in the star used the wonderful thing. Then, I thought whether energy could be given to people who feel hot like themselves with a work like the Galaxy. I was rather saved by the thought. "

Moreover, it is written to the Website interview of Gyokuhou kiln like this.

The inside of an interview of Japanese-style painter Hiroshi Senju, "for example, the works of art which remain in the history of Cezanne, Gaudi, etc. who were playing an active part in the first half of the 20th century were able to relieve the heart of people after 9.11 who got damaged, and were able to give courage.

That is, with art, there is a message which gives people courage and hope or relieves the heart which got damaged over the wall of the border, religion, and thought."

"I am also agreement. I think that the meaning which such meaning also loads Galaxy glaze with the thought to love and freedom, and tells a message is important. "

Mr. Nakao who says so hotly,

 "also in art called pottery, I think that the meaning of a new technique which other persons were not able to do is important.

I think that it is its figure to tell the message which remains in a history of man. "

The meaning of the frank and warm work which I feel from the works of Mr. Nakao and Mr. Nakao felt that I understood for me.

1952: Born in Saga.

 He quit the department of the Keio University department-of-literature philosophy.

 Studied under Mr.Ryuzan Aoki.

1981: He participates in Kyushu chapter of the Japan Contemporary Arts and Crafts Association, and aspires after a ceramist.

1982: First entry submitted to and then awarded by the Japan Contemporary Arts and Crafts Exhibition and the Japan Art Exhibition (NITTEN).

1992: Collected at the Beijing central applied-fine-arts institute laboratory (China).

 Collected to Hangzhou Southern Song Dynasty Guan Kiln Museum (China).

1993: Invited as the Japanese representative to exhibit at the Biennale lnternationale de Ceramique d'Art de Vienna in France, Nevers.

1994: Collected at the U.S. Colorado Denver Art Museum (Currently housed as a permanent collection).

1995: International Art Prize Grand Exhibition'95 Italia/Awarded the lnternational Art Encouragement. Mostra D'arte Giapponese'Comune di Montelupo Fiorentio, Italia, 1995.

1997: ExhibIted as theJapanese representative at the Japan-Spain Cultural Exchange Art Exhibition,"Heart Art in Spain 1997"(Seville,Spain),and Awarded the SIR" City of Sevilla Cultural Education Merit for such exhibition.
