ここでは、中尾哲彰さんについての経歴や、個人的な感想を書かせて頂きます。

私が初めて中尾さんに会って感じた印象は、内面から出てくる人としての"優しさ"と"率直さ"でした。

私の経験上、油滴釉や、結晶釉等の科学的知識を多く必要とする釉薬の研究者は、少し小難しい方が多いと思っていましたので、初めて中尾さんに会った時の、"優しさ"と"率直さ"はとても良い印象を持ちました。

もちろん私とお付き合いのある陶芸家の方々は、作品に性格が滲み出ているように、優しくまじめな方が多いですが、中尾さんに関しては、少し違う種類の空気を放っているのが、印象的でした。

この記事を書いている時点では、まだ一度しかお会いしてないですが、お話しさせて頂いているうちに、その少し違う雰囲気の理由が分かったような気がしました。

中尾さんが"銀河釉"を作った理由を聞かせて頂きました。

 中尾さんが銀河釉を開発しようと思ったきっかけは、20数年前に網膜剥離になった事から始まります。

中尾さんは網膜剥離で何も見えずに病室で一年ほど過し、精神的にも辛く、苦しい経験をされました。

そんな闘病生活の中、ふと目の前に、天体に輝く銀河、満天の夜空の星を思い浮かべられたそうです。

その銀河で何とか作品を作れないだろうか？

と、思ったと中尾さんは話してくれました。

彼のウェブサイトの中で、中尾さんは下記の様に語っておられます。

「不思議なことに、その星に救われる思いがしました。それで、銀河のような作品で、自分と同じように辛い思いをしている人たちに元気を与えることができるのではないかと考えました。私はむしろその思いに救われたのです。」（玉峰窯HP/月刊とっとっと　2006年11月号　vol.28　P12～P13　より抜粋）

また、玉峰窯のHPインタビューにはこのように書かれている。

日本画家・千住博氏のインタビューのなかで「ニューヨーク在住の芸術家は絶望の淵にある」という話がありました。

千住氏は、「９・１１同時多発テロ以降のニューヨークにおいて、芸術家はテロを起こした側、テロを受けた側の人々に、人間としての思いやりや癒しを伝えなければならないという使命感がない」というのです。

「テロ後の傷ついた人々の心を癒し、勇気を与えることができたのは、２０世紀前半の例えばセザンヌやガウディらの作品であり、そしてまた歴史に残る芸術。つまり、芸術とは国境、宗教、思想の壁を越えて、人に勇気や希望を与えたり、傷ついた心を癒したりするメッセージがある』という内容でした。

私も同感です。そういう意味でも、『愛と自由』への思いを銀河釉に込めてメッセージを伝える意味は大きいと思います。」

そう熱く語る中尾さんは、「焼き物という芸術においても、他の人にできなかった新しい技法の意味は大きいと思う。人類史に残るメッセージを伝えることが、自分の姿だと思っています。」

私は中尾さんの作品から感じられる、率直な美しさ、暖かさの意味が分かったような気がしました。

Here, I will write the career about Tetsuaki Nakao, and individual comment.

The first impression for me to meet and feel for Mr. Nakao was the "tenderness" and the "frankness" as a person which come out from an inside.

The researchers of the glaze which needs oilspot glaze and the scientific knowledge of crystal glaze etc., and ceramists thought that there were many somewhat complex people on my experience. Therefore, "tenderness" and "frankness" when I do the first meeting to Mr. Nakao had a very good impression.

The ceramists who have association with me, of course also have much more serious one gentle to as the ceramist's character is oozing in their work. But about Mr. Nakao, I had the impression which has released the air of the kind which is different for a while.

When I was writing this report, I felt that the reason of that atmosphere that is different for a while was found, after talking with him, although I was meeting Mr. Nakao only once.

I asked why Mr. Nakao made "Galaxy glaze."

 The cause which thought that Mr. Nakao would develop Galaxy glaze begins from having become retinal detachment about twenty years ago.

Mr. Nakao developed retinal detachment, he passed in the sickroom for about one year with blindness, and he had a also mentally hard and painful experience.

He looked at the starlit sky of the Galaxy and the whole sky which shine with a heavenly body by a struggle against disease in his heart.

Mr. Nakao said to me that he thought whether I could make works like the Galaxy.

In his website, Mr. Nakao is told as follows.

"The thought saved in the star used the wonderful thing. Then, I thought whether energy could be given to people who feel hot like themselves with a work like the Galaxy. I was rather saved by the thought. "

Moreover, it is written to the Website interview of Gyokuhou kiln like this.

The inside of an interview of Japanese-style painter Hiroshi Senju, "for example, the works of art which remain in the history of Cezanne, Gaudi, etc. who were playing an active part in the first half of the 20th century were able to relieve the heart of people after 9.11 who got damaged, and were able to give courage.

That is, with art, there is a message which gives people courage and hope or relieves the heart which got damaged over the wall of the border, religion, and thought."

"I am also agreement. I think that the meaning which such meaning also loads Galaxy glaze with the thought to love and freedom, and tells a message is important. "

Mr. Nakao who says so hotly,

 "also in art called pottery, I think that the meaning of a new technique which other persons were not able to do is important.

I think that it is its figure to tell the message which remains in a history of man. "

The meaning of the frank and warm work which I feel from the works of Mr. Nakao and Mr. Nakao felt that I understood for me.

 He quit the department of the Keio University department-of-literature philosophy.

 Studied under Mr.Ryuzan Aoki.

1981: He participates in Kyushu chapter of the Japan Contemporary Arts and Crafts Association, and aspires after a ceramist.

1982: First entry submitted to and then awarded by the Japan Contemporary Arts and Crafts Exhibition and the Japan Art Exhibition (NITTEN).

1992: Collected at the Beijing central applied-fine-arts institute laboratory (China).

 Collected to Hangzhou Southern Song Dynasty Guan Kiln Museum (China).

1993: Invited as the Japanese representative to exhibit at the Biennale lnternationale de Ceramique d'Art de Vienna in France, Nevers.

1994: Collected at the U.S. Colorado Denver Art Museum (Currently housed as a permanent collection).

銀河釉 : Galaxy glaze

銀河釉とは、金属の結晶が集まり、様々な輝きを放つ"結晶釉"です。 釉薬の中の様々な金属元素が1200度～1250度で焼成され結晶化します。

  結晶釉は、科学的な知識と自然の変化を読み調整する熟練の技が必要な釉薬なので、国内でもあまり見かけない、自然鉱石の輝きのようにとても美しく優雅な釉薬です。

  熟練した職人でさえ、全く同じ窯変結晶釉は作ることができないので、皆様が今見ておられる中尾さんの作品とまったく同じ作品は、この世に存在しないのです。

  春の新緑をイメージさせる「春銀河」、 夏の澄み切った夜空一面に広がる星空をイメージさせる「夏銀河」、 秋の新しい命を育む準備の色の「秋銀河」、冬のスターダストのような澄み切った美しさを持った「冬銀河」、 多彩な色合いの「睦月銀河」の５種が現在、中尾さんが安定して発色させている銀河釉の種類です 。

  私は日本国内外で様々な作家さんの結晶釉薬を見ましたが、中尾さんの結晶釉は肌理が細かく、近くで拡大して見てみると、冬の霜柱の様に美しく、少し離して見れば、本当に夜空の銀河のように美しいです。

Galaxy glaze is the "crystal glaze" to which metaled crystals gather for and various brightness is released.

Various metallic elements in glaze were fired at 1200 degrees - 1250 degrees, and crystallized.

Since crystal glaze is glaze which needs the work of the skill which reads and adjusts scientific knowledge and a natural change, it is very beautiful graceful glaze like the brightness of a natural ore seldom seen in Japan.

Since the Discoloration-of-ceramic-ware crystal glaze even with completely same skilled ceramists cannot be made, the completely same work as the work of Mr. Nakao by whom you are seen does not exist in this world.

"Spring Galaxy" which makes spring fresh green imagine, and "summer Galaxy" which makes the starlit sky which spreads on the night-sky whole surface on which summer cleared up imagine,Five sorts of "autumn Galaxy" of the color of the preparation which cherishes the new life of autumn, and "winter Galaxy" with beauty like Stardust of winter which cleared up and the "MUTSUKI(January) Galaxy" of variegated tone are the kinds of Galaxy glaze which is stabilized for Mr. Nakao is making color now.

I looked at the various writers' crystal glaze within and without Japan. But Mr. Nakao's crystal glaze is fine, and if it expands and looks at glaze nearby, it is beautiful like the ice needles of winter.

 And if distance is placed and seen from a work, it is truly beautiful like the Galaxy of a night sky.

窯と工房　/　Kiln and a Studio

中尾さんは５基の窯で、春、夏、秋、冬、睦月の５種の銀河釉の作品を焼いています。

それぞれの釉薬はとてもデリケートで、同じ条件下でそれぞれの発色は不可能です。

繊細な銀河釉薬は、５種類あれば、５基の窯で、それぞれの条件に合った焼成が必要です。

Mr. Nakao is firing the works of 5 kinds of Galaxy glaze using 5 kilns.

Each glaze is very delicate and it is impossible to fire all the glaze and to make it color under the same conditions.

If there is 5 kinds of delicate Galaxy glaze, the firing methods which are 5 kilns and suited each condition is required for it.

Hiroshi Yuasa(湯淺浩), simplified personal history:

1933: Born in Tatsuno-city, Hyogo prefecture.

The second son of the painter Mr.Yuasa Eiichi(湯淺栄一).

1957: Studied under Mr. Hiratsuka Unichi(平塚運一).

Private exhibitions were held:

September, 1994: His first private exhibition at Kyoto Shimogawa-Saryo was held.

October, 1994: His works were displayed at the Yomiuri Shimbun "MEISHI-MEIRYU exhibition" and were submitted to this exhibition in subsequent years.

A work is submited after this every year.

March, 1995: Mr. Yuasa's work was exhibited at the "gallery art memory."

July, 1995: He sent the work to the Shimane oil-painting exhibition (島根洋画展) for display for the first time, and was accepted and awarded.

July, 1995: "The scenery work exhibition of Kyoto"(京風景作品展) was held in Kyoto Kokusai Hotel.

November, 1995: He is inaugurated as a lecturer at the YOMIURI Kyoto culture center.

January, 1996: Mr. Yuasa produces the frontispiece illustration for the monthly "SOMETOURI"(そめとおり).

June ,1996: He exhibited his work in JR Kyoto station AS'TY plaza.

作品の縁の皺について(About the wrinkles of the edge of a work)：

湯浅氏の木版画作品の縁には時々しわや折り目が付いている事があります。
このしわは伝統的な手法で木版画を製作する過程で発生します。
木版画を刷る前には、にかわで和紙を湿らせてから黒インクを刷ります。

その後、紙を乾燥させて、作品達に錘を乗せて押さえつけます。
これらの工程で、和紙の伸縮率に差が生じるために、作品縁にしわができます。
これらのしわは、全て伝統的な工程で作品が作られた証明です。

About the wrinkles of the edge of a work:

Wrinkles and a fold may sometimes be attached to the edge of a wood-block print work.

These wrinkles are generated during the process in making a wood-block print.

Before printing a wood-block print, Japanese paper is made which is wet from the process.

The paper is then dried before it is used.

Black ink is applied to the wood-block, the dried paper is put on the wood-block, and pressure is applied to produce the print on the paper.

Wrinkles are produced due to differences in the elastic rate of the Japanese paper.

The wrinkles are characteristic of the printing process using paper and are proof that the print was made by the traditional process.

Suzuki Toshiyuki (Tottori traditional-handicrafts craftsman) simplified personal history

Born in 1944.
1965: Study under SUWA OSAMU (the third generation SUWA SOZAN).
1970: DAISEN-YAKI kiln was established.
1981: Build KUKO-GAMA (climbing kiln).

Research manufacture of a kiln of ancient China (KEN-YO) and TEMMOKU is continued.

1983: TAMA-HAGANE-YO TEMMOKU glaze is completed.
1989: The wood-fired in reduction phenomenon basic theory of iron glaze was established.

Kazuwa ware (KAZUWA-YAKI) kiln former origin   :

Kazuwa ware was opened in treasure calendar year in ancient times, and continued with HAKUBI-SAN (伯尾山) and HAKUSYU-BISAN (伯州尾山).

The time went into Meiji and Kazuwa ware was manufactured under the name of KI-GYOKU (亀玉), HAKUMEN (伯面), and GYOKU-HAKU (玉伯).

When tradition tended to cease, first Toichi who studied under Hirano Douun (平野 洞雲) wished revival of Kazuwa, and opened the kiln of the Kazuwa mountain.

The style has received popularity from you as Kazuwa ware of the long tradition and vivid cinnabar.

Kazuwa ware has received honor, such as Japanese technical exhibition winning a contest and a purchase from the Imperial Household.

The second generation Toichi (Tamiya) studies under father Toichi, and presupposes that not only cinnabar but also new fields, such as an oil-spot temmoku and a KIN-SAI wood-fired in reduction, is its favorite.
